Batley Girls High School in West Yorkshire wanted to transform a wasted space into an ‘all weather’ outdoor picnic area for their Year 7 pupils.
Ray Henshaw, Deputy Head Teacher Batley Girls' High School comments…
"Students new to Batley Girls' High School often find the transition from a small primary school to a large secondary school quite difficult. So, we have created a 'school within a school' that is on a more manageable scale for Year 7 students allowing them to find their feet but also begin to broaden their horizons when they feel ready. Students have their own discrete area that includes their own canteen, a conservatory cafe, an indoor social area and an outdoor picnic area. The latter is the newest addition and was provided by Inside2Outside and features a retractable canopy area that provides shelter in the winter but that can be opened up in the summer months."
